One weekend, my son attended a two-hour basketball clinic, sponsored by Titan .
(Titan is a basketball concept store -a byword for quality, among basketball enthusiasts and shoe collectors, here in the Philippines. )
My husband -a shoe lover himself, is a Titan habitué.
He gets most of his Jordans and Kobes there.
Or, once in a while, my son tags along. Then, they both have their hair done, at the barbershop of Titan.
My husband gives time, in attending events spearheaded by Titan.
It was a Saturday, my husband brought my son to the Gatorade Hoops Center in Pasig and registered him for a basketball clinic -organized byThe Titan Basketball Academy.
We do not have a basketball ring in the house, more so a basketball court.
My son’s enthusiasm for basketball is limited only, to viewing basketball games on television or watching live basketball at the Araneta. (-especially when my husband’s PBA basketball player-relative hands out complimentary tickets)
Thus, the Gatorade Hoops Center was overwhelming for my son, while the instructors might had been, too.
Talk about PBA players, like Rob Wainwright, Mike Cortez, Nic Belasco and Tony dela Cruz, who were encouraging six-year olds, to shoot hoops.
My son is too shy -to even dribble a ball or run around a basketball court.
But still, you could learn from the best.
So guess who was trying his best, to dribble and shoot hoops, a few pointers later?
I was amazed, at how the PBA players were able to draw out, the children’s confidence, in basketball, after a few tries.
I thought of the 1986 movie ” Hoosiers” (later renamed “Best Shot” ) which starred Gene Hackman. The kind of training, the coach gave the boys in the movie, seemed unconventional that time. But it encouraged the younger ones, to train more.
