The #iBlog10 Event

The last time I went inside the Malcolm Theater, of the College of Law, was during a college freshmen orientation with my block.
Now I came back for my blog. ( just a few adjustments there with the alphabets -on my intent and purpose. ) I did come back for an orientation though, but this time with iBlog10.

iBlog10 went for two days at the U.P. College of Law but my schedule permitted me to attend, on the second day. ( April 5, 2014 )

I look forward to events of this kind. In iBlog10, the topics tackled were exactly all the questions that a mommy/woman/she/it/domesticgoddess/darna/yaya/all-around/filipina/coffeeface blogger like myself, needed to know.

My goal of strengthening my on-line presence and my first-time-in-attendance at iBlog10, speak volumes of how I am as a blogger. ( the living under a rock sort, while on the planet that is the 3rd rock from the sun.)

So after Mr. Jason Bagio shared his SEO-speak, I felt so brilliant in a, are you smarter than a fifth grader or kakasa ka ba sa grade 5″ kind of way.
I had nothing to say and nothing to ask, I was mum, more than being mom, during the event. I learned a lot from the iblog participants since their questions were questions, I would have never asked, in my not so intellectual capacity as an internet user.

I learned from the questions asked by the young ones, whose knowledge of the internet, overwhelms, if not terrifies me. I see my son’s future.

Thank you bright and young minds.

( they-were-new-kids-on-the-blog, with very successful blogs, mind you.)

I was the divergent, of course.
( surrounded with the young blood, made me feel like that vampire in cosmopolitan Paris of the 1800.)

It was in fact already iblog10 and it was my first time to attend. If iblog was an individual, I have missed an entire childhood, milestones and all.
I really, am, thankful that I was able to attend, at least on their tenth year –a decade later.

I also was with an entourage of youngsters, though. My youngest sister, a law student in that college, and my son together with my husband, patiently waited for me outside the theater.

I do want to be relevant and significant as a blogger, like one speaker during the event, Dr. Bien Nillos. I already had high expectations, even before the good doctor spoke.

Dr
Dr. Bien Nillos

His ” doctor to the barrios” credential preceded him. I knew that the person, standing before us, had rich experiences, to share with the audience. True enough, his talk was awe-inspiring. Even a life on a cruise and a piña colada in hand, did not stop him from going back to the barrios.

( I do feel ashamed for myself of course, for given the exact situation – it would be the piña colada, hands down, then, botox. )

Plus, I totally agree with him, when he said that with the availability, of knowledge in the internet, patients today know so much, too much, about their sickness, when they come visiting.

( I am that patient, “in most patients today”.)

Special citation also goes to the podium, for having concealed the doctor’s greatest ambition. Besides with an advocacy like that of Dr Bien, becoming a hunk is immaterial, don’t you think so?

In iblog10, I acquired a particular knowledge. Through Mr. Howie Severino of GMA 7, a word was reborn in my eyes.

Howie Severino
Mr. Howie Severino of GMA

Kuryente, or nakuryente , according to Mr. Howie Severino , in journalism jargon, is getting the wrong information and passing it on, to the public.

Last time I checked, this word had something to do with “mataas na singil” . So, I welcome this new definition in my mind. Something new, at least for me.

Besides, another nakuryente that I know of, was when I first met my husband. (nuong mga panahon na siya ay dumada moves)

This brings me back to another word, which is garnish. In my life as a mom, I thought, it only had to do with cooking. Till one day, Manny Pacquiao uttered it. So today, I know my garnish from that of Kim Henares‘, Manny’s and my recipe book. And after iblog10, my kuryente -from that of Meralco’s.

I might still be scared of Senator Sotto but not anymore of Atty. J.J. Disini.

Atty. J.J. Disini

I know of law students, friends and relatives, who might describe him as a teacher, in the same lines as, “law school is for the brave.” And when one person from the audience said that she hoped for Atty. J.J. to be her teacher and he said, “you will regret it”I knew, he meant it.

But if, for several hurried minutes, I learned that much from him, like the cyber crime law, privacy data and well, Senator Tito Sotto, imagine what I would have learned in a semester.

I guess, I will not regret it.

( or maybe, Atty. J.J. has discussions on you tube?…to at least keep my arteries and capillaries from rupturing, “sa personal”. )

Thank you Atty. J.J.
I left the Malcolm Theater, as a mom empowered with: “ No libel should be made for public figures when half of their time is spent in the public eye.” ” Internet is not mass media so the DOJ did not regulate it. “
Finally on iBlog10, I was also “fan girl-ing”. (as Jennifer Lawrence would have said, of Jack Nicholson)

How I met this mother, Ms. Janette Toral.

The one and only mother of e-commerce who was generous enough to have her photo taken with me. What else? She inspires. She is larger than life. Thank you Digital Filipino and iblog, you’ve helped clueless bloggers like myself, in understanding the laws, the behavior, the responsibility and the lingo that come with being a blogger.

And to all the participants like myself:

May we continue to put substance and worth in our work, so we gain people’s trust. May we strive to be better.
May we aim not to be as derogatory sounding, as how one famous senator, once said it,
with ” blogger ka lang. ” ( then of course suddenly, roles were reversed, he claimed he really was the subject of cyber bullying -and that was the long and short of the cyber crime prevention act.

Thank you for blogger events, they have enriched my life and made me a better person. Thank you to the people who shared their experiences on the event. They have inspired me in my writing, informed me on seo, encouraged start-ups and made me believe in the community that I am in.

P.S. I was eyeing for the shirt and I prayed hard for it . But clearly, fate took one look at me and insisted that I needed a massage. Thank you for this too, Iblog10!

something I won
thank you for this too, Iblog10
