My husband and my child have discriminating taste buds. They know good food like it is fixed in their DNAs. They remember clearly which restaurants serve delectable dishes.

So every time my husband, my son and I have the chance, to dine along the Banawe area, in Quezon City, we would find ourselves in one of our favorite Chinese restaurant, Mandarin Sky.

The Mandarin Sky serves Asian and Chinese cuisine. The restaurant is known for their XO oysters and Yang Chow Fried Rice.

Here are our favorites:

1. Minced Pork with Tofu

This dish is minced pork, cooked in special sauce and bell peppers. It is served with crispy fried tofu.

2. Shrimp with Asparagus

This has to be my favorite since I am a fan of shrimps and vegetables.

This dish is small-sized shrimp sautéed with mushrooms, carrots, scallions and asparagus. The vegetables give the dish a sweet flavorful taste.

3. Spicy Spare Ribs

Deep fried spicy pork spare ribs.

My husband is a fan of spicy food, so this dish at the Mandarin Sky is a favorite.

4. Tao Pao with Satay Sauce

Tao pao is fresh bean curd skin. It is usually ordered for shabu-shabu. But my husband would have it deep-fried and served with satay sauce.

5. White Chicken

My son loves the white chicken from the Mandarin Sky. This dish is poached chicken served with ginger oil-sauce and garnished with scallion.

And before we leave we would usually bring home, Polo Pao.

It is their version of the sweet buns popular in Hongkong. The bun is made of sweet pastry crust with pork meat inside. It best eaten warm, like the Siopao that we are used to.

The Mandarin Sky is at 478 Banawe Ave, Sta. Mesa Heights, Quezon City.
