2021. Today, my son is now a teenager in the premiere science high school in the country. I am not the resource person on bringing up a teenager because I still am new to this. My son has no interest in guesting on my blog, so the most I can do is talk about back when he was little. Or go back to posts that helped me bring him up to the teener that he is now.
Seven years ago I went through my son’s collection of cds and dvds, when I saw his favorite cd and dvd set, since he was three years old.
They Might Be Giants : Here Comes Science
He used to mumble the lyrics of the songs in the cd, especially the song, “The Blood Mobile.”
Some of the lyrics for The Blood Mobile
The white blood cells are soldiers
That fight infectious germs
They make the antibodies
Their weapons in the fight
The army is transported
Wherever they must go
Delivered by the Blood mobile

And now that he is in grade 1, he is more appreciative of this cd and dvd set especially since in school, they now have topics on energy, photosynthesis and the like. So hearing those words in Science class was not that too strange for him -like it’s the first time off the gates.
We have three cd/dvd set of They Might be Giants namely, Here Comes Science, The Abcs and The 123s. Years ago, somebody bought them for me from Amazon. ( which I saw is still available until now)
The other two cd and dvd sets :The Abcs and The 123s can be appreciated more by younger children who are just starting to read and count. Of all three, I highly recommend Here Comes Science for young grade-school students. It is because only few songs nowadays have science-related lyrics.
Here Comes Science has songs which talk about the planets, the sun, the elements and matter: solid, liquid and gas.
It both has a dvd and cd that children can watch and listen to. (even adults like me can enjoy the songs)
Some of the lyrics for the song Photosynthesis:
Chlorophyll cells take in carbon dioxide
Now that’s the air that we breathe out
Combines it with water and exposes it to sunlight
And that’s how plants can make their own food
Photosynthesis is why plants need light
And photosynthesis is why humans need plants
Because through photosynthesis plants make oxygen
And humans need oxygen to breathe
