” Happiness is two kinds of ice cream
Finding your skate key, telling the time
Happiness is learning to whistle
Tying your shoe for the very first time
Happiness is playing the drum in your own school band
And happiness is walking hand in hand..”
– lyrics from The Happiness Song by Lea and Gerard Salonga.
I have always envisioned childhood that way. “The happiness of tying one’s shoe for the very first time and walking hand in hand.” Childhood is learning everything for the first time and not really letting go, just holding hands.
My husband and I hoped that our son will have a happy attitude towards learning. We did not aim for our son to be the brightest child in the block nor the smartest among his peers.
We wanted him to love learning. It was important for us that his first years in school would be his happiest. We knew that when learning is fun, a child would process it easily.
We wanted a preschool that had an organized way of teaching. We wanted our son to learn the basics in reading and writing. We wanted him to have fun with his addition and his take aways.
We wanted him to enjoy learning.
We also wanted a preschool that would prepare our child for the big school.
My husband and I have always talked about, finding our son an effective preschool. We had great preschool teachers in our childhood. My husband would always remember his nursery teacher as the kindest one who helped him read. While I remember my prep teacher, Mrs. Te, as the one who never admonished me and took the time to listen to me. ( I, being the talkative one in class )
We enrolled our son at a Chinese preschool at D. Tuazon in Quezon City, at the Mind Specialists School.
We found the ” happiness school” that we wanted for our son. A preschool that inspired my son and gave him organized play and learning.
As my son struggled with his writing skill, the teachers patiently guided him. They even shared with me teaching techniques which helped me with my son. ( Different Strokes for Different Kiddos)
Teachers tried their best, to answer all my questions ( I had so many ) regarding my son’s performance in school. It was through them that I learned about my son’s true potential as a learner.
At the end of the school year our expectations were met, and more. I eagerly shared my experience with the school during their closing ceremony:
A Speaking Engagement ( an excerpt)
This morning, may I quote Isaac Newton, when he said,
“If I have seen further, it is only by standing on the shoulders of Giants.”
Just as he had attributed his successes to past thinkers, us, parents, on the other hand, we want the best for our children.
We want them to be, on a vantage point – with the upper hand.
We want them, to have the best of what life has to offer,
that perhaps in our own childhood, we might have missed and have not experienced.
We want them to expand their viewpoints and broaden their horizons.
THEREFORE, WE WANT OUR CHILDREN, TO STAND ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS.
So that even as SMALL children, they may see more,
learn more and experience more, of everything that there is to life.
We want them to show up for life,
knowledgeable, well-equipped and confident in every aspect.
SO, with that in mind, my husband and I, spoke of, having to enroll our child in a good pre-school…click here for A Speaking Engagement
My husband and I recommend this preschool because their educational programs helped develop my son’s learning ability. Today, my child who used to be shy with his peers, is one confident child, who entered the big school.
