In between taking care of my son and doing household chores, light reading is what I can afford these days.
Therefore books of the young adult genre have caught my fancy. This summer had been a book marathon for me. Why, with my son on vacation, I was able to focus on my reading list.
“Passenger” by Alexandra Bracken is one of those books that brought me back to my reading habit. I have always been fascinated with novels on young love, adventure and yes, time traveling.
“Passenger” was just that.
The book took off on a beautiful premise —a young lady is transported into the past. She finds out about a well kept family secret. She eventually creates her love story back there.
The story revolves around the life of Henrietta ” Etta” Spencer a renowned young violinist. One moment she was playing at The Met, and next, she finds herself on a ship, sailing on the Atlantic —in 1776.
She is about to inherit a family legacy. She discovers that she belongs to a family of time travelers. A discovery and a trait she was not ready to accept.
Etta leaps into eras searching for a missing object that her mother might have stolen and left hidden in the past. She finds the passages in time with the help of Nicholas “Nick” Carter, a sailor and a time traveler.
Be ready to go on an adventure with the main characters :

They go hand in hand as they try to out wit the Ironwood Patriarch, Grandfather Cyrus who claimed that the missing object was owned by his family, first.
Interesting characters like Rose Linden, Alice , Sophia, Captain Hall and Julian will keep you occupied as you go through the past.
As much as I want to talk about the story without revealing the entire book, I would want you to enjoy it, like I did.
It was impressive for me that the author took on a love story that involves a 21st century young woman and a 1700s seafarer-young man.
While conflict had risen, given the generation and history in between them, so many things remain constant with them, like ambition, hard work and loyalty and strong family bond.
You will fall in love with the main character like she was family.
If adventure, courtship and time traveling is interesting to you, you might as well get a copy of “Passenger” now.
The book does not only appeal to the young ones but to the young ones like me as well.
